- REFLECTION:
“According to my opinion and my experience, the rule of silence should be in the first place. GOD does not give Himself to a talkative soul, which, like a drone in the hive, buzzes a lot, but does not produce honey. The talkative soul is empty in its interior. There are no fundamental virtues in it, nor intimacy with GOD. Not to mention a deeper life, nor a sweet peace, nor the silence in which GOD dwells. The soul, without liking the sweetness of interior silence, is a restless spirit and disturbs this silence in others. I saw many souls in the infernal abysses for not having observed silence. They told me so themselves when I asked them what the cause of their ruin had been. They were consecrated souls. Oh my GOD, what pain to think that they could not only be in paradise, but even be saints. Oh JESUS, Mercy, I tremble to think that I must give an account of the tongue, in the tongue is life, but also death, sometimes with the tongue we kill, we commit real murder, and can we consider this as a small thing? I really do not understand these consciences. I knew a person who, upon learning from another of a certain thing that was said about her… became seriously ill, lost a lot of blood and many tears there and then came a sad consequence, not caused by the sword but by the tongue. Oh my silent JESUS, have Mercy on us”. (Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, The Divine Mercy in my soul, Diary, 119).
